For the first time, the Indian Army’s grand Army Day Parade was held on the public roads of Jaipur, outside the cantonment area, marking a historic moment during the 78th Army Day celebrations. The parade showcased the Army’s strength, valor, discipline, technological advancement, and growing self-reliance in defense capabilities.

The parade featured mechanised columns, infantry units, paratroopers, and displays of the Army’s latest combat and operational capabilities. A major highlight was the first-ever public appearance of the newly raised ‘Bhairav Battalion’, formed as part of recent structural reforms. Based on lessons learned from global conflicts and Operation Sindoor, this battalion bridges the role between Para Special Forces and regular infantry, enabling swift and precise responses to modern battlefield threats.

With camouflaged faces, synchronized marching steps, and thunderous war cries, the Bhairav Battalion captivated spectators. The parade was reviewed by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, who took the salute during the ceremonial march-past.

Elite units such as the Garhwal Scouts, Sikkim Scouts, and Arunachal Scouts marched with full combat readiness. The all-girls contingent of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) emerged as a special attraction, representing youth power and women’s leadership. The contingent was led by Senior Under Officer Kavita Kumawat.

The weapon systems on display included the upgraded BM-21 Grad multi-barrel rocket launcher, the 300 mm ‘Smerch’ system capable of firing 12 rockets up to 90 km, the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), and the M777 Ultra-Light Howitzer.

In air defense, the indigenous ‘Aakashteer’ medium-range Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system was showcased. The system gained global attention for its effective performance during Operation Sindoor, where it successfully neutralized Turkish and Chinese-made drones used by Pakistan. The Igla Man-Portable Air Defence System (MANPADS) was also part of the display.

The grand parade strongly underlined the Indian Army’s increasing modernization, operational readiness, and commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, reinforcing India’s growing stature in global defense capabilitie
