Path Cleared to Bring Madhuri the Elephant Back to Nandani
Prior Permission Granted for Rehabilitation Centre; Work to Gain Momentum After Hearing

Madhuri Elephant | An important and positive update has emerged regarding Madhuri the elephant. The path has finally been cleared to bring Madhuri back to Nandani, as the necessary prior permissions have been granted to set up an elephant rehabilitation centre on the premises of Nandani Math.
During a hearing held before the High-Powered Committee in Mumbai, the inspection committee chaired by Dr. Manoharan, as per earlier directions, submitted a satisfactory report on Madhuri elephant’s overall health. The long-standing bond between Madhuri and the mahout of Nandani Math was also specifically highlighted, informed advocate Manoj Patil representing Nandani Math.
Approval for the construction of the rehabilitation centre has been granted in seven phases, with an estimated budget of approximately ₹12 crore. Positive information regarding Madhuri’s health was presented during the hearing, and it was noted that the committee appointed in the previous hearing submitted a satisfactory report.
A joint proposal submitted by Nandani Math Sansthan, Vantara, and the Government of Maharashtra before the High-Powered Committee (HPC) and Justice Verma has been granted construction pre-approval for the rehabilitation centre. This is expected to accelerate the actual execution of work.
Following today’s hearing, a positive outlook has emerged regarding the process of obtaining necessary on-site permissions, and the HPC has shown willingness to expedite further proceedings. All parties expressed satisfaction with the hearing, and advocate Manoj Patil stated that the subsequent process concerning Madhuri the elephant has become more dynamic.
