Pawana Water Supply Scheme: Rahul Kalate Takes the Lead for Closed Pipeline Project
Meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis: Demand for Funds and Acceleration of the Project

Pimpri-Chinchwad: BJP corporator Rahul Kalate has taken the initiative to speed up the highly important Pawana closed pipeline project related to the water supply of Pimpri-Chinchwad city. He met Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai and submitted a detailed memorandum.
The memorandum presented key information about the Pawana direct closed pipeline scheme, which is crucial for Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Around 90% of the land acquisition for the project has been completed, and a provision of ₹186 crore has been made in the municipal budget. However, it has been expressed that if at least 25% of the total project cost is not secured, the tender process may stall, leading to further delays.
Currently, approximately 500 MLD (million liters per day) of water is supplied to the city from the Pawana dam. This water flows naturally up to the Ravet weir and is then treated and distributed to citizens. However, this method results in significant water leakage, and pollution also affects water quality. The proposed closed pipeline project is expected to save about 100 MLD of water, making additional water available.

Notably, due to the project remaining pending for nearly 15 years, its cost has escalated dramatically from ₹300 crore to ₹1,256 crore. Therefore, a demand has been made to immediately allocate funds and expedite the project at the administrative level.
With Pimpri-Chinchwad being a rapidly growing city, the issue of water scarcity is becoming increasingly serious, and public dissatisfaction against the “tanker lobby” is rising. Once the Pawana closed pipeline project is completed, the city’s water supply is expected to become more efficient, safe, and regular. Rahul Kalate expressed confidence that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will prioritize this important project and take a positive decision soon.
“Ensuring clean and regular water supply to the citizens of Pimpri-Chinchwad is our primary responsibility. Completion of the Pawana closed pipeline project will significantly reduce water scarcity in the city and provide major relief to the citizens. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, I am confident that this project will gain momentum,” said Rahul Kalate, BJP corporator.
