Pimpri-Chinchwad | Correspondent: The land acquisition process for the Nashik Phata to Khed Elevated Corridor (Twin Elevated Corridor) project in Pimpri-Chinchwad has received a significant boost. The Public Works Department of the Maharashtra Government has sent a letter to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) regarding the allocation of ₹175 crore for acquiring 4.104 hectares of land within the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) limits. This decision is expected to accelerate the stalled land acquisition process.

The Nashik Phata to Khed Elevated Corridor project requires the acquisition of an additional 14.1 hectares of land. This includes 3.869 hectares within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits, 6.128 hectares under the jurisdiction of the MSRDC, and 4.104 hectares within the PMRDA limits. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had valued this land acquisition at a total of ₹600 crore, and approval had previously been granted to distribute ₹200 crore to each of the concerned agencies.
According to a letter issued by the Public Works Department on July 20, 2024, instructions have been given to make ₹175 crore available to the PMRDA through the Urban Development Department. This amount is to be drawn from the unspent balance of the ₹200 crore fund previously distributed to the MSRDC for land acquisition. Consequently, the land acquisition process within PMRDA limits will gain momentum, removing a major hurdle in the project’s implementation. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Mahesh Landge had drawn the government’s attention to this matter by raising a ‘Calling Attention Motion’ during the state legislature session. He had also actively pursued the issue with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to secure the necessary funds for land acquisition. The government’s decision, following his persistent efforts, is set to accelerate the project’s progress. Additionally, funds for land acquisition within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits are expected to be sanctioned soon.
The Nashik Phata to Khed elevated corridor is considered an ambitious project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the cities of Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune. This project will provide significant relief to traffic along the Pune-Nashik Highway—including the Nashik Phata, Bhosari, Moshi, and Charholi areas—and will make commuting between industrial and residential zones faster and more convenient. Consequently, the availability of funds for land acquisition marks a crucial milestone for the project. *****
