Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, challenging him and the Opposition to stop what he described as “running away” from parliamentary debate and instead face discussions inside Parliament over the ongoing student protest issue.

The political confrontation comes amid nationwide tension following the CJP-led Parliament March at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, which turned violent after police action against student protesters. The incident has intensified the political battle between the ruling NDA and the Opposition, with Congress demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged examination controversy.
Responding to questions on the issue, Fadnavis said the Opposition should raise its concerns through democratic institutions instead of resorting to protests.
“My challenge to Rahul Gandhi and the entire Opposition is this—stop running away and face the debate in Parliament. If you are truly committed to students’ welfare, show the courage to discuss the issue inside the House. In a democracy, decisions are made in Parliament, not on the streets,” Fadnavis said.
He further stated that if the Opposition believes in the Constitution, it should seek answers through parliamentary debate and force the government to act with ideas and constructive discussions rather than political agitation.
Fadnavis accused the Opposition of using student protests for political gain instead of focusing on meaningful solutions.
“If you have ideas and solutions, compel the government through debate. Stop using protests merely to serve political interests,” he added.
The Chief Minister also defended the Modi government, claiming that several student-centric reforms have already been implemented. He said the Centre introduced fast-track courts for cases related to examination paper leaks and asserted that the recent NEET re-examination was conducted smoothly without major issues.
Highlighting the government’s investment in education, Fadnavis claimed that the education budget had increased significantly under the Modi government compared to the UPA era. He also alleged that several examination paper leak cases had occurred in Congress-ruled states and said the Opposition was unwilling to discuss those incidents.
Taking another swipe at the Opposition, Fadnavis remarked that creating political chaos had become its mindset instead of participating in constructive democratic discussions.
