Srinagar | Special Correspondent: A major development has emerged in the investigation of the terror attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 last year. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reportedly recovered crucial evidence linking the attack to a possible China connection.

What Is the Key Evidence?

According to investigative sources, the NIA recovered a GoPro Hero 12 camera allegedly used by the terrorists. Preliminary findings suggest that the seller of the device is based in China.

The NIA court has sent a formal Letter Rogatory to Chinese judicial authorities seeking detailed information about the supply chain, including who purchased and activated the device. Investigators believe the camera may have been used for reconnaissance before carrying out the attack.

Additional Electronic Evidence Seized

Apart from the camera, officials have seized multiple electronic gadgets, mobile phones, and other materials from the attack site. The recovered black-colored GoPro Hero 12 (Serial No. C3501325471706) is being treated as a vital piece of digital evidence.

Investigators suspect that the device was activated on January 30, 2024, and may have been used to record surveillance footage prior to the attack.

Dutch Company Contacted During Investigation

Earlier, the NIA had contacted GoPro BV in the Netherlands for details regarding the sale of the camera. The company informed authorities that the devices were supplied to a Chinese trading firm identified as AE Group. However, further details about the end-user remain under Chinese jurisdiction, the company clarified.

Background of the Pahalgam Terror Attack

The terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 last year claimed the lives of 26 tourists and local residents. Following the incident, India initiated strict diplomatic and strategic measures against Pakistan, including suspension of water flow under the Indus water arrangements.

Subsequently, India launched military action under Operation Sindoor targeting terror bases across the border. After weeks of heightened tensions and cross-border skirmishes, both nations agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.
