Mumbai : The Maharashtra government has approved development works worth ₹22,181 crore for the upcoming Kumbh Mela to be held in Trimbakeshwar and Nashik in 2027.The decision was taken during a meeting of the Kumbh Mela Apex Committee chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Vidhan Bhavan.

Development Works Worth ₹22,181 Crore Approved

The approved amount includes ₹5,140 crore for the first phase and ₹17,041 crore for the second phase of infrastructure and development projects for the mega religious event.

The Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, is expected to attract millions of devotees from India and abroad to Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized that every devotee visiting the Kumbh Mela carries back an impression of India and Maharashtra, and therefore the event must be organized in a way that makes it a global attraction.


Warning Against Delays in Development Work

The Chief Minister also warned that any individual or agency deliberately delaying Kumbh Mela projects will face strict action and criminal cases.

He directed officials to ensure timely completion of infrastructure works, including roads, sanitation, transport facilities, and communication systems.


Key Instructions for Kumbh Mela Preparations

Major instructions given during the meeting include:

  • Proper compensation for farmers whose land will be acquired for infrastructure projects

  • Starting road construction after 50% land acquisition completion

  • Ensuring high-quality sanitation facilities and toilets

  • Improving railway infrastructure, including verification of facilities at Niphad railway station

  • Strengthening mobile network connectivity for pilgrims

  • Upgrading roads connecting Shirdi, Shani Shingnapur, and Nashik


River Cleanliness and Infrastructure Focus

The Chief Minister directed authorities to ensure that water in the Godavari River and Kushavarta Kund at Trimbakeshwar remains clean during the Kumbh Mela.

Special attention will also be given to infrastructure near Kalaram Temple to avoid traffic disruptions during development work.


Training Youth Volunteers for the Event

Around 2,000 to 4,000 local youths from Nashik and nearby areas will be given skill training to work as volunteers during the Kumbh Mela.

The government will also explore opportunities for women self-help groups to participate in business activities during the event.
