Indian Tankers Given Safe Passage

One of the LPG carriers, Shivalik LPG Tanker, has already crossed the Strait of Hormuz under the protection of the Indian Navy.

Another tanker, Nanda Devi LPG Carrier, is expected to exit the strategic waterway within the next few hours.

Strategic Importance of the Strait

The Strait of Hormuz, located near Iran’s coastline, is one of the most critical global energy routes. Nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply and a significant portion of maritime natural gas shipments pass through this narrow passage.

After military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, Tehran reportedly restricted shipping movements through the strait, raising concerns over global energy supplies.

Diplomatic Talks Between India and Iran

In response to the situation, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, held a phone conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran.

During the discussion, both leaders addressed issues related to energy transportation and trade routes from the Gulf region to India.

India Provides Shelter to Iranian Sailors

Meanwhile, India has also provided safe shelter to 183 Iranian sailors who arrived in the country after the conflict began.

The sailors were aboard one of three ships that had come to India for a naval exercise. Reports suggest that another ship involved in the exercise was sunk near the coast of Sri Lanka in a torpedo attack.
