Environmental Status Report 2024-25 of Pimpri-Chinchwad City Released by Commissioner Shekhar Singh

Pimpri-Chinchwad | The “Environmental Status Report 2024-25,” which provides an in-depth review of the environmental conditions in Pimpri-Chinchwad city, was released today by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh during the Standing Committee meeting.
This report provides a comparative analysis over the past three years and offers a detailed evaluation of various environmental aspects of the city. It includes components such as area and population, climate change, rainfall, water supply, current condition of rivers, streams, and lakes, drainage systems and sewage treatment projects, air and noise pollution levels, soil quality, solid waste management, energy consumption, roads and transportation systems, Smart City projects, education, medical services, gardens, industries, disaster management, and urban renewal plans.

Key Findings from the Report…

Through the Garden and Environmental Engineering Department of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, tree plantation and conservation activities are regularly carried out at various locations with the participation of institutions, NGOs, schools, and citizens. A total of 1,73,576 trees were planted by the Municipal Corporation in 2024-25.

Pimpri-Chinchwad’s climate is typically tropical. In 2024-25, the highest rainfall was recorded in Bhosari with 218.0 mm in July and 197.5 mm in Chinchwad.

In 2024-25, there has been a 36% increase in the number of registered vehicles compared to the previous year. Of the total registered vehicles, 3.5% are electric vehicles (EVs). As of 2024-25, approximately 50,902 EVs have been registered.

Increasing number of vehicles, industrialization, and changing lifestyles have deteriorated air quality. Annual average levels of PM10 and PM2.5 dust particles exceeded the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board standards. From June to September, AQI was found to be in the “Good” category, in April, May, and October it was “Satisfactory”, and from November to March, it was “Moderate”.

As of 2024-25, PMPML has a total of 1,948 buses, including both owned and leased. By the end of June 2025, there are 225 CNG buses and 490 electric buses.

A total of 19 sewage treatment plants of the Municipal Corporation process about 332 MLD (Million Liters per Day) of wastewater. About 31 MLD of this treated water is reused monthly for road washing, dust control systems, and gardening.

So far, approximately 3,51,542.43 metric tons of domestic waste have been processed in the Waste to Energy project, generating 13,69,40,859 units of electricity. Also, in the Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Management project, about 39,827 metric tons of debris has been successfully processed.

Under the Hotel Waste to Biogas project, about 3,593 metric tons of wet waste has been processed, generating 1,12,249 kilograms of biogas.
