Municipal Corporation Results: First Trends Indicate BJP Ahead as Counting Progresses

The counting of votes for the Municipal Corporation elections across Maharashtra began today, starting with postal ballots in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. According to early trends from postal voting, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a clear lead in Pune Municipal Corporation elections.

As per the initial postal ballot results in Pune:

  • BJP is leading in 32 seats

  • Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is ahead in 14 seats

  • Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) – 0 seats

  • Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) – 2 seats

  • Indian National Congress – 2 seats

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) consists of 165 seats across 41 wards. Out of these, 40 wards elect four corporators each, while Ward No. 38 is a five-member ward. A total of 1,155 candidates contested the election, including 277 independent candidates, making the contest highly competitive.

Voting for the municipal elections was held on Thursday, and the full counting process began today. Election officials estimate that each counting round may take approximately 30 minutes. The first official results are expected to be declared by around 11:30 a.m., while the entire counting process is likely to conclude by 3:30 to 4:00 p.m.

With counting still underway, political parties and citizens alike are keenly watching the evolving trends, which will determine the future leadership of one of Maharashtra’s most important civic bodies.
