London: Team India has suffered a major setback ahead of the third and final ODI against England, with star all-rounder Washington Sundar reportedly ruled out due to injury.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Sundar will miss the series-deciding clash at Lord’s after sustaining a leg injury during the second ODI.

The all-rounder played a crucial role in India’s victory in the opening ODI, scoring a valuable half-century that helped the visitors take an early lead in the three-match series. However, he suffered an injury during the second match in Cardiff and was forced to leave the field. He was unable to return during England’s innings, raising concerns over his fitness.

Sundar also had a disappointing outing with the bat in the second ODI, scoring just 2 runs off 5 balls before appearing to struggle while walking off the field.

With the series currently level at 1-1, India is expected to make at least one change to the playing XI. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is likely to replace Sundar for the decisive encounter.

The third ODI at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground will determine the winner of the three-match series after India won the first match and England bounced back with victory in the second.

Meanwhile, speculation that the Lord’s ODI could be Rohit Sharma’s final international match has been dismissed. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that there have been no discussions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Rohit Sharma regarding retirement.

India will now look to overcome the setback and clinch the ODI series despite the absence of one of their key all-rounders.
