Lack of Expected Action from Authorities: IT Workers and Society Members Ready to Protest!

Hinjewadi:
A tragic accident occurred once again in the Hinjewadi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad city. On Friday, November 21, a mixer truck collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a young woman and the severe injury of her companion. The incident took place near Shindevasti, Marunji, while the young couple was returning home from Kasarsai Dam.
Earlier this week, a 20-year-old woman died in a similar incident in Jambe, where a dumper ran over her. After the fatal accident on Navale Bridge in Pune, accidents involving heavy vehicles in the Hinjewadi area have become a hot topic of discussion in Pimpri-Chinchwad city.
The young woman, Rida Imran Khan (19, resident of Viman Nagar, Pune), tragically lost her life at the scene, while Vivek Thakur, her companion, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The mixer driver, Ajmal Akhtar Ansari (32, resident of Jambe), has been taken into police custody, and an investigation is underway at the Hinjewadi Police Station.
According to the police, Rida and Vivek were riding their motorcycle when the mixer truck collided with them at high speed in the Shindevasti area. The accident was so severe that Rida died instantly, and Vivek was left seriously injured.
Hinjewadi-Wakad Area’s “Accident Hotspot”
This incident highlights the recurring danger of accidents in the Hinjewadi and Wakad areas, which have seen a total of 37 deaths in the past 11 months. Factors such as heavy traffic around the IT Park, reckless driving of heavy vehicles, disregard for speed limits, and frequent violations of traffic rules have contributed to this growing death toll.
59,000 Traffic Violations in 11 Months
The traffic department has taken strict measures, fining over 59,000 reckless drivers in the past 11 months, collecting fines amounting to ₹6.5 crore. However, there seems to be no end to violations and the uncontrolled behavior of drivers. Due to the constant accidents, residents are now demanding immediate action from the administration to enforce speed limits, regulate heavy traffic, improve traffic management, and repair roads. Furthermore, there is a growing call to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles during nighttime.
