According to media reports, the Varanasi team filmed several sequences at spectacular locations across Africa, including Mount Kilimanjaro and Masai Mara. Mahesh Babu’s newly released photographs are reportedly from this shooting schedule.
Speaking about the African locations, SS Rajamouli said that the continent provided the film with a natural scale and visual experience that could not have been recreated on a studio set.
The director also revealed that filming around Kilimanjaro and Masai Mara left him stunned by the sheer scale of the landscapes.
What Did SS Rajamouli Say About Rudra?
Rajamouli described Rudra as a character driven by a purpose larger than himself. According to the filmmaker, Rudra is humorous, sensitive and aggressive at the same time, and Mahesh Babu has brought these contrasting qualities effectively to the character.
Rajamouli further explained that portraying aggression alone is relatively easy for an actor, but combining aggression with sensitivity requires a different level of performance.
He also recalled the experience of shooting in Africa and said the locations offered something that no artificial set could provide. While shooting around Kilimanjaro and Masai Mara, the director was reportedly amazed by the scale of the landscapes, saying that some morning views appeared too vast even for an IMAX 1.43:1 frame.
