Pimpri-Chinchwad | Correspondent The Pimpri-Chinchwad Chakan Housing Society Association (PCCHSS) has clarified its official stance regarding Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), stating that STPs are mandatory for environmental protection. The PCCHSS firmly opposes the position of any organization, federation, or group that opposes the installation of STPs.

The association clarified that its opposition is not against the STP itself, but against builders who evade the legal responsibility of constructing a functional STP before handing over possession of the society. It is the builder’s legal obligation to construct a fully functional STP, conduct testing, and make it operational before handing over the society in eligible housing projects. The association firmly demands that no Completion Certificate or Occupancy Certificate be issued without a functional STP in place.

On this occasion, the association reiterated its motto: “Supporting PCMC in good work, opposing them in wrong actions!” Association Secretary Prakash Junkatwar said, “Environmental protection begins with proper sewage management. Untreated sewage poses a serious threat to rivers and water bodies. An efficient STP is not merely a legal requirement but a collective responsibility towards future generations. It must be made mandatory for every builder to construct a functional STP before handing over possession of the society.”

Additionally, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Chakan Housing Society Association has appealed to all housing societies to ensure that, once the builder has provided a functional STP, they operate it regularly, maintain it properly, and conscientiously fulfill the responsibility of eco-friendly sewage management. Environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of the government, municipal corporations, or builders; every housing society shares an equal moral, social, and legal obligation in this regard. Keeping an operational Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) shut or failing to maintain it properly reflects negligence towards the environment. The association has urged all societies to keep their STPs operational regularly in the interest of the environment.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Chakan Housing Society Association has demanded that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation adopt a firm stance regarding environmental protection, the effective enforcement of laws, and the accountability of builders. The association further clarified that it would fully support any decision taken in the interest of the environment while firmly opposing any action or stance that causes environmental harm.

“We stand with Mother Nature. We do not accept the hypocritical attitude of worshipping the Indrayani River while simultaneously discharging untreated sewage into it. Any organization opposing STPs is effectively standing against the environment, and the PCCCHSS will never support such a stance. No project should be granted a Completion Certificate or Occupancy Certificate unless the builder has installed a functional STP.”
