IND vs ENG: Will Vaibhav Replace Samson in 2nd T20?
India may make a bold selection call in Manchester as young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi pushes for his international debut, putting Sanju Samson's place under serious threat.
IND vs ENG: Will Vaibhav Replace Samson in 2nd T20?
India could be set for a major selection dilemma ahead of the second T20I against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. With the opening match of the five-game series washed out due to rain, the pressure is now on both teams as only four matches remain to decide the series.

The biggest talking point is whether promising youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi will finally receive his international debut. If the team management decides to hand the young opener an opportunity, Sanju Samson could be the player forced to make way after struggling for consistency in recent outings.
However, dropping Samson won’t be an easy decision. The wicketkeeper-batter was one of India’s standout performers in the T20 World Cup and was named the Player of the Tournament. Despite his recent poor form, the team management may hesitate before leaving him out of the playing XI.
Vaibhav is a natural opening batter, while Abhishek Sharma is expected to retain his place after impressive performances. Several former Indian cricketers have also backed Vaibhav’s inclusion, urging selectors to fast-track his international debut.
Three Left-Handers at the Top Could Create Problems
If Vaibhav replaces Samson, India could field three left-handed batters in the top order. While the move offers aggression at the top, it could also work against India considering England’s spin attack featuring Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, and Adil Rashid, who are capable of troubling left-handers during the middle overs.
This tactical concern may convince the team management to stick with Samson for at least one more game despite the growing demand for Vaibhav’s inclusion.
Will India Continue With Three Spinners?
India opted for three specialist spinners—Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Ravi Bishnoi—in the opening T20I. While Old Trafford generally offers some assistance to spinners during the middle overs, the surface is traditionally more favourable for fast bowlers.
If India decides to strengthen its pace attack, Prince Yadav could replace Ravi Bishnoi in the playing XI.
