State Government Takes Major Decision for Memorial of Swarajya Protector Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj

The Maharashtra government has taken a significant decision for the development of the memorial of Swarajya Rakshak Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at Wadu Budruk (Taluka Shirur). Following the initiative of Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and on the instructions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, land owned by K.E.M. Hospital, Pune, at Wadu Budruk will be made available for the development of the memorial.

According to the Government Resolution issued by the Revenue Department, a total of 0.87 hectares 20 ares of land from Group Nos. 447 and 448 at Wadu Budruk will be immediately transferred for the development works of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s memorial.

In exchange, the state government has approved allotting 0.81 ares of land from Group No. 655 at Kondhapuri (Taluka Shirur) to K.E.M. Hospital under “Bhogwatadar Class-II” occupancy rights. This land has been granted as a special case, free of revenue charges and occupancy value, and can be used only for approved medical purposes. It will be mandatory to commence work on this land within three years.

Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced that suggestions from local villagers would be considered while preparing the development plans for Tulapur and Wadu Budruk. Under his leadership, a grand development plan worth ₹532.51 crore has been prepared for the development of these two historic sites.

Reacting to the decision, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said,
“The development of the area surrounding the memorial of Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj has been a long-standing demand. This decision will significantly accelerate the planned development work. This memorial is a symbol of sacrifice and supreme devotion.”

Key Features of the Development Plan

As per the approved plan, a state-of-the-art museum showcasing the life and history of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and a library rich in historical references will be constructed. An 82-seat modern auditorium will also be developed, where a film based on Sambhaji Maharaj’s life will be showcased using 10-D technology.
The memorial complex will feature a unique “Invisible Sculpture”, and a 120-metre-long ghat will be constructed along the banks of the Bhima River as part of the development.
