Iran Missile Strike on World’s Largest LNG Project in Qatar Sparks Global Concern
Attack on Ras Laffan gas facility escalates Gulf tensions; impact feared on global energy supply
Iran Attack on Qatar LNG Plant | In a major escalation in the Persian Gulf, Iran launched a missile attack on Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG facility—considered the world’s largest liquefied natural gas export hub.
According to officials, a total of five missiles were fired, out of which four were intercepted successfully. However, one missile struck the Ras Laffan plant directly, triggering a massive fire. Emergency teams in Qatar are currently working to control the blaze and assess the damage.

The attack comes amid rising tensions in the Gulf region following a recent strike by Israel on Iran’s South Pars gas field. Iran had earlier warned of retaliation, hinting that Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia could be potential targets.
Earlier this month, repeated attacks had already disrupted operations at key LNG facilities, forcing temporary shutdowns. Reports also suggest damage to gas infrastructure in Abu Dhabi, further adding to regional instability.

This latest strike has sent shockwaves through global energy markets, with fears of supply disruptions likely to push oil and gas prices higher. While the exact extent of damage to the Ras Laffan facility remains unclear, concerns over LNG supply chains are mounting.
Qatar has strongly condemned the attack, calling it a direct threat to national security. The government has also reportedly ordered Iranian officials and citizens linked to state offices to leave the country within 24 hours.
