Taking serious cognizance of the fact that the AQI is reaching alarming levels due to increasing industrialization, a growing number of vehicles, dust generated by construction activities, and incidents of waste burning, the Mayor has directed the administration to clearly define responsibilities and ensure effective implementation of the prescribed measures.
In accordance with the Mayor’s directives, priority has been accorded to increasing the number of air quality monitoring stations across the city, making real-time AQI data accessible to citizens, and establishing special monitoring mechanisms in sensitive zones. Furthermore, orders have been issued to enhance the effectiveness of the Intelligent Traffic Management System to alleviate traffic congestion, promote the use of public transportation, encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (E-vehicles), and take strict action against older vehicles that contribute to pollution.

To control pollution within industrial zones, directives have been issued to conduct regular inspections, strictly enforce the installation of pollution control mechanisms, and impose severe penalties on those found violating regulations. The Mayor has issued explicit orders mandating the use of green nets and dust barriers at construction sites, ensuring the regular cleaning and water-spraying of roads, and enforcing a complete ban—backed by strict punitive action—on the burning of waste.
Additionally, the Mayor expressed his firm resolve to achieve long-term environmental equilibrium by placing a strong emphasis on large-scale tree plantation, the development of green belts, urban forests, and ‘Oxygen Parks’ throughout the city. Directives have also been issued to immediately implement the “GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan)” should the AQI (Air Quality Index) reach a ‘Severe’ level.
“Access to clean and safe air is a fundamental right of every citizen in Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Improving the AQI is not solely the responsibility of the administration, but a collective responsibility of the entire city. However, no laxity whatsoever will be tolerated in this matter. All departments must coordinate with one another to undertake concrete and effective measures, and citizens, too, must actively participate in this campaign,” Mayor Ravi Landge declared in a clear and firm message.
Warning of Strict Action…
“To keep air pollution under control, it is essential to work at both short-term and long-term levels. We will not hesitate to take strict action wherever necessary. The health of the citizens remains our utmost priority,” the Mayor further emphasized on this occasion. The Mayor has assigned specific responsibilities to all concerned departments and has issued orders to monitor progress through regular review meetings. Furthermore, directives have been issued to submit a detailed report (Action Taken Report) regarding all the measures being implemented within a stipulated timeframe. Taking into account environmental conservation, public health, and sustainable development within the city, the Mayor has issued clear orders to the administration to ensure the immediate and effective implementation of all these measures.
