Pimpri-Chinchwad: Corporator Rahul Kalate has emphasized the urgent need to complete the Pavana closed pipeline project to permanently resolve the water supply issues arising from rapid urbanization in the Wakad, Tathawade, and Punawale areas. This ambitious project, stalled for over 15 years due to various reasons, has regained priority status thanks to the initiative of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis; consequently, citizens have high expectations for the meeting scheduled for July 3 in Mumbai, which will be held in his presence.

Kalate stated that elevated water storage tanks with capacities of 4.5 million liters (45 lakh liters) and 2.5 million liters (25 lakh liters) have been constructed in the Wakad, Tathawade, and Punawale areas of his ward. However, these tanks remain non-functional due to the lack of adequate water supply. He expressed regret that, despite the creation of infrastructure worth crores of rupees, citizens are unable to derive the intended benefits.

Describing the Pavana closed pipeline project as a matter of future water security rather than just immediate supply, he expressed confidence that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would take a positive decision to permanently resolve the drinking water crisis for Pimpri-Chinchwad residents while ensuring justice for the farmers of Maval.

Kalate also mentioned that he had personally met the Chief Minister during his recent visit to the Wakad area to express gratitude for prioritizing the Pavana closed pipeline project. He affirmed that he has consistently pursued this project within the Municipal Corporation and will continue efforts at the government level to ensure its early completion.

“Water tanks with a capacity of lakhs of liters in the Wakad, Tathawade, and Punawale areas are lying unused due to a lack of water. Against the backdrop of a growing population, the completion of the Pavana closed-pipeline project is the need of the hour. I am fully confident that Chief Minister Devendraji Fadnavis will take a positive decision to ensure permanent water security for the residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad while also doing justice to the farmers of Maval.”
