Sukhbir Badal Attacked at Nanded Gurdwara; Assailant Held
Nanded: Shiromani Akali Dal president and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon during his visit to Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra, on Thursday. Badal sustained an injury to his hand and was subsequently taken to a private hospital for treatment. Initial reports indicate that his condition is stable and the injury is not life-threatening.

According to preliminary reports, Badal was visiting the gurdwara along with his wife and Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The attack reportedly took place while he was returning after paying obeisance at the gurdwara.
The assailant allegedly approached Badal with a sharp-edged weapon and attempted to attack him. Security personnel immediately intervened and overpowered the attacker, preventing the situation from escalating further. One security personnel was also reported to have been injured while trying to foil the attack.
Police have taken the accused into custody and launched an investigation into the incident. The identity of the attacker has reportedly been established, while the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear. Security arrangements around the gurdwara have also been strengthened following the incident.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an investigation into the incident and also spoke with Badal following the attack. Authorities are now examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the security arrangements in place at the religious site.

Sukhbir Badal Was Attacked Earlier Too
This is not the first time Sukhbir Singh Badal has faced an attack at a gurdwara. In December 2024, an assassination attempt was made against him at the Golden Temple in Amritsar while he was performing religious service as part of a punishment ordered by the Sikh religious authority. The attacker had attempted to fire at Badal, but people nearby intervened and he escaped unharmed.
The latest incident at the historic Hazur Sahib gurdwara in Nanded has triggered concern in political circles and among the Sikh community. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and establish the full sequence of events.
