The incident took place in Gadipeddapur village of Alladurg Mandal in Medak district, where the couple had been married for just 18 months. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the woman was expecting her first child when her husband allegedly began expressing doubts about her fidelity.
Police said the controversy escalated on June 23, when the woman’s parents visited her in-laws’ house to discuss arrangements for her traditional baby shower ceremony. During the family meeting, the husband allegedly demanded a DNA test in the presence of both families, questioning whether he was the biological father of the unborn child.
Although community elders reportedly intervened and temporarily settled the dispute, the victim allegedly continued to face mental harassment after the meeting.
Unable to cope with the emotional trauma caused by repeated allegations against her character, the woman allegedly died by suicide at her residence two days after her parents returned home.
Based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, police registered a case against the husband, G. Abhilash, and his mother. Both have been arrested.
According to police, the accused have been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to cruelty by husband or relatives, abetment of suicide, and common intention. Further investigation into the case is underway.
The heartbreaking incident has once again highlighted the devastating impact that domestic harassment, mistrust and emotional abuse can have on victims, particularly during pregnancy.
