Pimpri, October 31, 2025: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has been selected as one of six Indian cities to participate in the International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC) Asia and Australasia Programme, officially launched during the Urban Infrastructure Finance Festival 2025 held in New Delhi.

The event, themed “Inclusive, Resilient, Sustainable Cities,” marked the beginning of a new phase of EU–India collaboration to promote climate-resilient and innovative urban growth.

As part of the IURC India Kick-off Meeting, representatives from the European Union (EU), the Government of India, and participating cities — Chennai, Pimpri Chinchwad, Jabalpur, Cuttack, Gangtok, and Leh — came together to exchange ideas and identify opportunities for joint action on sustainable city development.

Representing Pimpri Chinchwad at the meeting, PCMC Chief Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni highlighted the city’s strong focus on urban innovation, mobility improvement, and climate resilience. He shared PCMC’s ongoing efforts to integrate green and inclusive principles into its urban planning framework while addressing challenges posed by rapid urbanization and multi-agency coordination.

Kulkarni emphasized that Pimpri Chinchwad is actively adopting new approaches to climate-adaptive planning, waste management, energy efficiency, and green mobility. He noted that participation in international collaborations such as IURC allows the city to access global best practices and build partnerships that support practical, locally relevant solutions.

During the session, both EU and Indian delegates identified shared priorities including climate adaptation, circular economy, digital innovation, and sustainable financing. The discussions reaffirmed the need to align city-level initiatives with national frameworks such as the Smart Cities Mission and the National Urban Policy Framework.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to develop joint action plans, capacity-building initiatives, and technical exchanges, paving the way for deeper cooperation between European and Indian cities.
