PCMC Amenity Tax Sparks Massive Housing Society Outrage
Federation Warns Of Strong Democratic Agitation Against “Unjust” Tax Burden On Open Spaces, Parking And Clubhouses
Chikhli–Moshi–Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation has strongly opposed the property tax imposed on amenities inside residential societies by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, demanding immediate cancellation of the controversial levy.
The protest comes after PCMC’s Tax Assessment and Collection Department reportedly imposed property tax on open parking areas, open spaces, playgrounds, clubhouses and other common amenities within housing societies across the city. The move has triggered widespread anger among residents and society members, who claim the additional taxation is unfair and financially burdensome.
A formal representation regarding the issue was submitted to Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi by the federation. In the memorandum, the federation stated that imposing separate taxes on common and shared utility spaces is unjustified, especially when society members are already paying regular property taxes.
Federation President Sanjivan Sangale strongly criticized the decision and warned of large-scale public agitation if the tax is not withdrawn immediately.
“Imposing a separate ‘amenities tax’ on common facilities such as open parking, gardens, clubhouses and playgrounds in housing societies is completely unjust. Society members are already paying regular property tax, and putting an additional financial burden on them is unacceptable. This decision must be cancelled immediately and reconsidered; otherwise, a strong democratic agitation will be launched in the interest of citizens.”
The federation has taken a united stand against the taxation policy, increasing the possibility of a major civic controversy in Pimpri-Chinchwad in the coming days. Meanwhile, PCMC has not yet issued any official clarification regarding the matter.
