As part of the campaign, dedicated teams of MSEDCL engineers and staff are visiting housing societies to conduct awareness sessions, explain the advantages of smart meters, and answer residents’ queries. The initiative aims to improve public confidence and encourage the adoption of the new digital metering system.

According to MSEDCL, specially formed teams are interacting directly with housing society members, providing detailed information on how smart meters function and clarifying doubts regarding billing, electricity usage, and meter operations.

Strong Response from Pune Consumers

The awareness campaign has received a positive response from electricity consumers across Pune and nearby areas. MSEDCL stated that 1,413,193 smart meters have already been installed across the Pune division as part of the ongoing modernization project.

Chief Engineer Sunil Kakade has deployed full-time awareness teams across various divisions. Each team consists of five members, including two engineers, who are conducting meetings inside large residential societies.

Within just one week, these teams have organized around 200 awareness sessions, resolving the concerns of more than 40,000 electricity consumers. Additionally, two LED awareness vans have been deployed at busy public locations to educate citizens about the benefits of smart meters.

Over 39 Lakh Electricity Meters in Pune Division

MSEDCL said the Pune division has approximately 3.9 million electricity meters. Among the smart meter installations completed so far:

  • Ganeshkhind City Division: 528,326 smart meters
  • Rasta Peth City Division: 524,222 smart meters
  • Pune Rural Division: 360,645 smart meters

The utility is continuing its installation drive across the remaining service areas.

Key Benefits of Smart Meters

Lower Tariff During Solar Hours: Consumers using electricity between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM receive a Time of Day (TOD) rebate of ₹0.85 per unit, helping reduce electricity bills.

Accurate Digital Billing: Automated meter readings eliminate manual intervention, significantly reducing the possibility of incorrect or estimated electricity bills.

Real-Time Electricity Monitoring: Consumers can track their hourly and daily electricity consumption through the mobile application, enabling better energy management and cost savings.

Faster Fault Detection: Smart meters instantly notify MSEDCL about technical faults or power supply interruptions, allowing quicker maintenance and restoration of electricity services.
