Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms Across Several Districts on Saturday
Lightning, gusty winds, and moderate to heavy rainfall likely in parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Central Maharashtra as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal strengthens monsoon conditions.

Pune: After a brief lull in rainfall that led to rising temperatures across Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to heavy rain across several districts on Saturday (July 18). A Yellow Alert has been issued for multiple regions, warning residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
Although no major monsoon system is currently active over the state, a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal has created favourable conditions for rainfall across Maharashtra.

The first half of July has witnessed below-normal rainfall in many parts of the state, raising concerns among farmers. According to weather officials, rainfall across India has so far remained below the seasonal average, while the developing El Niño conditions over the Pacific Ocean are expected to continue influencing the monsoon. Meteorologists expect rainfall activity to strengthen across Maharashtra after July 20.
On Saturday, several districts are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy showers, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.
