New Delhi | The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has created a new tremor in politics by announcing the nomination of Maharashtra’s current Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election. BJP President J. P. Nadda made this announcement, praising him as an “experienced, inclusive, and nation-devoted leader.”

With this decision, the NDA has sought to strengthen its equations in South India and boost its foundational political presence in Tamil Nadu. Radhakrishnan, who was elected twice as MP from Coimbatore, brings with him long-standing experience in the RSS and the BJP, making him effective at the national level.

“Shri Radhakrishnan is an honest, scholarly, and humble personality. His public life is rooted in the values of national service,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked through social media.

Rich Mark on Political Career

Radhakrishnan won the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency in 1998 and 1999. Later, he served as the President of BJP Tamil Nadu unit, as a member of several parliamentary committees, and contributed to various central government institutions. After serving as the Governor of Jharkhand, Telangana, and Puducherry, he was appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra in 2023.

A Decision Beyond Politics

With this move, the NDA has achieved a triple effect – political, social, and organizational. BJP’s strategy indicates that this Vice-Presidential candidature is not just about filling a post, but about projecting a face that conveys national unity.

Election on September 9

The election for India’s 14th Vice-President will take place on September 9, 2025. All eyes are now on which candidate the opposition INDIA alliance will field. C. P. Radhakrishnan’s candidature is not just a political announcement but a historic decision, symbolizing national integration, southern outreach, and RSS-rooted leadership. It remains to be seen how much trust the nation’s Members of Parliament will place in this experienced leader.
