Pune: Pune Metro passengers are set to get a major connectivity boost as the construction of a 150-metre skywalk connecting Metro Line 3 and Line 1 at Shivajinagar has entered its final stage. The skywalk, being constructed near the Kamgar Putla area, is expected to be completed by the end of August.

The facility has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹5.5 crore and will directly connect the concourse areas of the two Metro stations. Once operational, passengers will be able to transfer between the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 and the Swargate-Pimpri Chinchwad Metro Line 1 without exiting the station premises.
The skywalk is expected to provide significant relief to commuters who currently have to navigate outside areas and road traffic while changing between the two Metro corridors. The facility will make the interchange process faster, safer and more convenient for daily commuters.
The new connection will particularly benefit employees travelling towards Hinjewadi IT Park, along with passengers travelling between Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate. By eliminating the need to leave the Metro station while changing lines, the facility is expected to save commuters valuable travel time.
According to MahaMetro officials, the skywalk has been designed to connect the paid areas of both Metro stations, allowing passengers to make a direct interchange without having to exit and re-enter the station.
The skywalk will be opened for public use after inspection and clearance by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). It will become operational once the required safety inspection is completed and the Line 3 station is opened for passengers.
MahaMetro officials said the project is aimed at making Pune’s public transport system more seamless and improving the overall commuting experience for Metro users.
