Karnataka Power Shift Buzz Grows as CM Seeks Governor Meet
Political heat intensifies in Karnataka as Siddaramaiah seeks Governor’s appointment amid renewed leadership change speculation and high-stakes Congress meetings.
Karnataka Leadership Change | Fresh political turbulence has once again gripped Karnataka as speculation over a possible leadership change in the Congress government gains momentum. The latest developments over the past two days have further fueled discussions that a major political reshuffle could be closer than expected.
According to sources, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sought an appointment with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on May 28, triggering intense political curiosity across the state.
Adding more weight to the ongoing buzz, Siddaramaiah is also expected to meet Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar over breakfast on Thursday morning at his official residence ‘Kaveri’. The meeting comes shortly after both senior leaders held separate discussions with the Congress high command in New Delhi.

Interestingly, a similar round of political maneuvering had taken place in 2025 when Siddaramaiah completed two-and-a-half years as Chief Minister. At that time too, strong reports of a leadership transition had emerged. However, Siddaramaiah had reportedly urged Shivakumar to wait until after the next Assembly elections to stake claim for the top post. The next Karnataka Assembly election is scheduled for 2028.
The political developments intensified after a crucial Congress meeting in New Delhi attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala. Party insiders claimed that discussions primarily revolved around the upcoming Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections.
Despite the growing speculation, Siddaramaiah had publicly dismissed reports suggesting an imminent change in the Chief Minister’s post. However, political observers believe the Congress leadership may take a final call only after the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled next month.
The back-to-back high-profile meetings, the Governor appointment request and renewed discussions around power-sharing have now pushed Karnataka politics into a high-voltage phase once again.
