BJP Picks Suvendu as Bengal CM, Vijay Stakes Claim
Massive Political Shift in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu as BJP Names Suvendu Adhikari CM Face While Thalapathy Vijay Secures Crucial Support to Form Government
Kolkata/Chennai: In a major political development, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has officially been elected as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal. The announcement was made after the BJP Legislature Party meeting held under the supervision of Amit Shah in Kolkata on Friday. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at 11 AM.
What made the selection politically significant was that all eight proposals submitted for the post of Chief Minister carried only one name — Suvendu Adhikari. The proposal was moved by BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya and received unanimous backing from party MLAs.
After being declared the legislature party leader, Suvendu Adhikari assured that the first-ever BJP government in Bengal would fulfill every promise made in the party manifesto and work in complete coordination with the central government.

Meanwhile, another dramatic political breakthrough unfolded in Tamil Nadu as Thalapathy Vijay moved closer to power. The leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam submitted letters of support from 118 MLAs to Governor Rajendra Arlekar and formally staked claim to form the government.
Although TVK had emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, the party was short of the majority mark by 10 MLAs. In fast-paced political negotiations throughout the day, five Congress MLAs and six Left-backed legislators extended support to Vijay, ultimately clearing the path for government formation.
Following the meeting with the Governor, Vijay personally visited the offices of the CPI and CPI(M) to thank the Left parties for their support. Notably, this marked Vijay’s first-ever visit to Left party headquarters since entering active politics.
CPI General Secretary M. Veerapandian publicly confirmed support to the Vijay-led alliance, signaling a major realignment in Tamil Nadu politics.
