Supriya Sule Met Modi for MPs’ Issues: Raut
Sanjay Raut clarifies Sule-Pawar meeting, attacks Modi government over Parliament, judiciary and political defections
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP and spokesperson Sanjay Raut launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi government, the BJP and the Maharashtra government while speaking to reporters on several political issues. He commented on Supriya Sule’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Shiv Sena party-symbol dispute before the Supreme Court, the alleged suppression of the Opposition in Parliament and the political future of the Eknath Shinde faction.
‘Original Shiv Sena belongs to Uddhav Thackeray’
Referring to Uddhav Thackeray’s recent press conference, Raut alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was indirectly attempting to put pressure on the judiciary while the dispute over the Shiv Sena name and symbol is being heard by the Supreme Court.
Raut said Thackeray’s position was completely justified.
“For the last 16 days, the Opposition has been demanding that the Prime Minister come to Parliament, but he is not coming. However, six rebel MPs facing disqualification proceedings are being served dhokla, fafda and jalebi at the Prime Minister’s residence. It seems the Prime Minister’s residence has started a catering service,” Raut remarked.
Raut further argued that the defection of MLAs or MPs does not mean ownership of a political party automatically goes to those who have left it.
“The party belongs to Uddhav Thackeray. Balasaheb Thackeray had handed over the party’s reins to Uddhav Thackeray, and we all stand with the original party,” he said.
He added that the Constitution and the Supreme Court are bigger than Narendra Modi and that the party expects justice, not any favour.
Raut explains Supriya Sule’s meeting with Modi
Raut also sought to put an end to speculation surrounding NCP MP Supriya Sule and Sharad Pawar’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I have spoken to Supriya. There is no confusion within the Maha Vikas Aghadi or the INDIA alliance. Nobody is going anywhere and nobody is leaving the Maha Vikas Aghadi,” Raut said.
According to Raut, several MPs from Maharashtra have pending issues because the Prime Minister and Home Minister have not been coming to Parliament.
He explained that Sule had brought together the issues of various MPs along with those of two NCP MPs and met Prime Minister Modi with a delegation of eight MPs.
Raut also described Sharad Pawar as a guide and said that his NCP remains an important constituent of the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
‘Modi-Shah should learn from Nehru’
Raut accused the government of undermining parliamentary democracy and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should study the parliamentary traditions followed by former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
“Narendra Modi and Amit Shah should read and understand the life and parliamentary work of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to learn how to respect the Opposition and uphold the traditions of parliamentary democracy,” Raut said.
He alleged that democracy was being humiliated on a scale not witnessed in the last 75 years and accused the Prime Minister of avoiding Parliament.
‘Shinde faction will merge with BJP’
Raut also made a strong prediction about the political future of the Eknath Shinde faction.
He claimed that both the Eknath Shinde group and the Ajit Pawar group were created by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and alleged that their “ownership” remained with Shah.
Raut further claimed that due to the disqualification proceedings pending before the Supreme Court and constitutional provisions, the Shinde faction would soon have to merge with the BJP or cease to exist.
His remarks come amid the continuing political and legal battles over party ownership, disqualification of legislators and the future of Maharashtra’s political alliances.
