56,779 Objections Filed on Pimpri-Chinchwad DP

Pimpri: The long-awaited hearing on 56,779 objections filed against the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Draft Revised Development Plan (DP) has finally begun. The hearing process started on August 3, 2026, nearly a year after the objections were submitted.

Citizens, farmers and landowners have raised a large number of objections against proposed reservations, road widening projects and various development proposals included in the DP. The scale of the objections has now put the spotlight on whether the hearing committee will make changes to the proposed plan.

Particularly significant is the fact that 37,479 objections have been filed against just 17 reservations in the DP. The committee’s stand on these objections, and whether the proposed reservations will be modified, cancelled or shifted, will be closely watched across the city.

17 Reservations Attract 37,000+ Objections

Several major proposals have emerged as key points of opposition.

Among them are the Municipal Purpose, Police Station and Bus Terminal reservations near Bhimsrushti in Pimpri. Large numbers of objections have also been filed against the proposed 18-metre and 24-metre road widening in areas including Talawade, Thergaon, Chinchwad, Pimpri and Wakad.

Citizens have also raised objections concerning the proposed cemeteries in Chikhali, Kiwale and Sangvi, the slaughterhouse in Moshi, the stadium in Charholi, the HCMTR/ring road alignment and the flood line.

Development Plan Covers 28 Villages

The Draft Revised Development Plan covers not only the existing Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area but also areas transferred to the municipal corporation from the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority.

The plan includes 28 villages covering 173.24 sq km. Various reservations, public amenities and development projects have been proposed as part of the city’s long-term planning.

Under Section 26(1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1996, the Draft Revised Development Plan for Pimpri-Chinchwad city and the Special Planning Authority area was published on May 14, 2025.

56,779 Objections in 60 Days

Citizens, farmers and landowners alleged that several reservations had been proposed incorrectly or in ways that would adversely affect private properties.

Objections were submitted over proposed land reservations, road widening and various development projects that could affect properties.

During the 60-day period from May 15, 2025, to July 14, 2025, a total of 56,779 objections were submitted.

The unusually high number of objections has highlighted the extent of public opposition to several proposals in the Draft Development Plan.

Hearing Begins After Nearly a Year

Despite the objections being filed in 2025, the hearing process began only after nearly a year. The hearings commenced on August 3, 2026, with objections being taken up as part of the process.

A seven-member committee has been appointed to conduct the hearings. The committee will examine the objections and concerns raised by citizens before taking a decision.

The key questions now are whether reservations will be modified based on citizens’ demands, whether some reservations will be cancelled or shifted, and what decision will be taken on proposals such as road widening.

Limited Response From Objectors

Despite the huge number of objections filed, the response from objectors attending the actual hearings has reportedly been relatively low.

Around 2,500 citizens have been issued notices for the hearing, but only around 150 to 200 people are attending in person.

The hearing process is being conducted at the G. D. Madgulkar Natyagruha in Akurdi and is scheduled to continue until November 2026.

City Awaits Final Decision

The 56,779 objections filed against the Draft Revised Development Plan represent a significant figure in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s urban planning process. The fact that more than 37,000 objections have been raised against just 17 reservations clearly indicates strong opposition to several proposals.

All eyes are now on the seven-member hearing committee and the changes it may recommend. The extent to which citizens’ objections are considered and reflected in the final Development Plan could have a major impact on the future development and planning of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
