Action Plan for Traffic Decongestion in Pune–Pimpri-Chinchwad
Cabinet Minister Dada Bhuse assures in the Legislative Assembly : Attention drawn by MLAs Rahul Kul and Mahesh Landge

Pune | Before the conclusion of the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, a review meeting will be held regarding the traffic congestion issues in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. In this meeting, officials from Municipal Corporations, MIDC, PMRDA, and National Highways will be directed to create a time-bound action plan. Since land acquisition is the main obstacle, the State Government, under the guidance of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, will take a positive and proactive approach. An “Action Plan” will be prepared to ensure timely completion of key projects such as the Pune Ring Road and the Nashik Phata to Khed Elevated Corridor, said Cabinet Minister Dada Bhuse.
The monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly is currently underway in Mumbai. Against this backdrop, the work on the Pune Ring Road has been delayed, and there is a growing demand for speeding it up. MLAs Rahul Kul (Daund) and Mahesh Landge raised this issue through an attention motion, urging immediate and prioritized measures to address internal and peripheral road congestion in the city.
“Coordination Mechanism Needed” – MLA Rahul Kul
MLA Rahul Kul expressed concern that daily commuters are facing immense hardship due to traffic congestion in Pune. He pointed out that there are two separate issues – traffic congestion within the city and on connecting roads. While the Mahayuti government has approved projects like Hadapsar to Yavat, Pune to Shirur, and the Pune Ring Road – with a target of completion in four years – there must be a proper coordination mechanism to ensure the projects are completed on time.
He also stressed the need for monthly progress meetings with local representatives. Road conditions, encroachments, and road narrowing due to Smart City works have worsened traffic. He urged that immediate remedial measures be taken to tackle the situation.
“Pune is Rapidly Expanding” – MLA Mahesh Landge
MLA Mahesh Landge highlighted the importance of Pune–Pimpri-Chinchwad city, which lies at the center of major hubs like the Hinjewadi IT Park, Auto Hub, and Pune Airport. The city is expanding rapidly, and traffic problems are growing. He noted that more than 1 lakh new vehicles are expected on Pimpri-Chinchwad roads in the next year.
While expressing gratitude to CM Devendra Fadnavis for starting works on routes like Talegaon–Shikrapur, Wagholi–Shirur, Hadapsar–Daund, he raised concerns about delayed projects like the Pune Ring Road and Nashik Phata to Khed Elevated Corridor due to pending land acquisition. He also emphasized the need to accelerate planned projects on Pune-Bangalore Highway and in the Hinjewadi IT area to resolve traffic issues.
“Officials-Representatives Meeting Essential”
To expedite land acquisition for the Pune-Nashik Highway, MLA Landge suggested that the State Government, along with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and PMRDA, should raise necessary funds. Despite Hinjewadi IT Park being globally recognized, poor road conditions during rains turn them into canals. Projects get delayed due to inadequate compensation for farmers.
He proposed that better compensation would encourage farmers to willingly offer land. If land acquisition hurdles persist, the District Collectorate should form an Integrated Authority to address the issues collectively. With Maharashtra aiming for a $5 Trillion Economy by 2030, cities like Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad must contribute, and that requires solid road infrastructure. Hence, he urged a joint meeting of local representatives and departmental officials to devise practical solutions.
“A meeting of relevant department officials will be scheduled before the end of the session for projects like Pune Ring Road, Pune–Bangalore Highway, and Pune–Nashik Highway. The government is positively addressing local-level challenges and carrying out land acquisition in consultation with farmers.
The Pune Ring Road is being executed in 9 packages, and work has already begun. The goal is to complete the entire ring road in the next 3 years.”
