Pimpri-Chinchwad | Special Correspondent | In a significant step toward strengthening public healthcare governance, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has proposed the formation of a dedicated Health & Medical Committee, recognizing the city’s growing healthcare challenges and population pressure.

The proposal was introduced by BJP corporator and noted orthopedic specialist Dr. Suhas Kamble, along with NCP corporator and City Improvement Committee member Dr. Vaishali Ghodekar. The joint proposal emphasizes the urgent need for a specialized committee to ensure faster, more efficient, and citizen-centric healthcare services across the city.

Currently, the municipal corporation operates through five subject committees. However, with Pimpri-Chinchwad’s population crossing nearly 4 million, healthcare issues have become increasingly complex, necessitating focused administrative attention. The City Improvement Committee, under Resolution No. 3 dated March 10, 2026, has recommended the establishment of this new committee.

Positive Response from Civic Administration

Dr. Kamble had earlier raised this issue in the general body meeting and also held detailed discussions with Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi. Acting on the proposal, officials have been directed to examine the feasibility of forming a Health & Medical Committee under the provisions of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. A detailed report on its structure, objectives, and member composition is currently being prepared.

A Crucial Step for 4 Million Citizens

The formation of this committee is expected to be a game-changer for nearly 4 million residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad. With rapid urbanization and rising cases of communicable diseases, the need for swift decision-making and efficient healthcare delivery has become critical.

Expected Benefits

  • Faster decision-making in public health matters
  • Improved planning and management of hospitals and health centers
  • Better preparedness and control over epidemic outbreaks
  • Enhanced accessibility and quality of healthcare services for citizens

“The establishment of a dedicated Health & Medical Committee is the need of the hour for Pimpri-Chinchwad. Under the guidance of MLA Mahesh Landge, we have consistently pursued this demand. This initiative will significantly improve the efficiency and responsiveness of healthcare services in the city.”

What Lies Ahead

All eyes are now on the upcoming General Body meeting, where the proposal will be tabled for final approval. If passed, the initiative is expected to redefine healthcare governance in Pimpri-Chinchwad and set a benchmark for urban local bodies across Maharashtra.
