Power Infrastructure Boost for Talwade–Kalas Area; Electricity Supply to Get Major Upgrade
BJP MLA Mahesh Landge’s Persistent Follow-Up Yields Results; Power Projects Approved at Kanbay Substation and GREF Centre Kalas

Pimpri-Chinchwad |
In a significant move to address frequent power outages and forced load shedding in the Talwade and Dighi industrial belt, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has approved major power infrastructure upgrades. The decision comes in response to the rising electricity demand from expanding industrial and IT hubs in the region.
Following sustained efforts by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have been proposed for the installation of additional power transformers at the 22/22 kV Kanbay Substation and the 22/11 kV GREF Centre, Kalas.
Relief from Overloaded Power Network
At present, the electricity network in the Talwade area is operating under excessive load due to shared and overburdened systems. This has led to frequent breakdowns, power interruptions, revenue losses, and growing dissatisfaction among industrial consumers.
To resolve these long-standing issues, MLA Mahesh Landge held a crucial meeting with MSEDCL Director Vishwas Pathak in May 2025 and also raised the matter during the State Assembly session with Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The administration has now responded positively by approving the proposed infrastructure enhancements.
Additional Transformer at GREF Centre Kalas
Currently, the GREF Centre Kalas substation operates with a single 10 MVA transformer, which is functioning at nearly 95 percent capacity. As a result, areas such as Dighi and VSNL feeder zones face compulsory load shedding for 2 to 3 hours daily during peak demand.
To permanently eliminate this issue, MSEDCL has proposed installing an additional 10 MVA power transformer at the GREF Centre Kalas. This upgrade is expected to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality electricity supply to both industrial and residential consumers.
Boost to Industrial Growth and Investment
The power strengthening projects at Kanbay and Kalas are expected to significantly enhance the reliability of electricity supply across the Talwade–Dighi industrial corridor. This will pave the way for new industries, IT parks, and fresh investments, while reducing breakdowns, load shedding, and revenue losses.
Given that the existing infrastructure is already operating at maximum capacity, the 22/22 kV Kanbay Substation has become essential to meet future industrial load growth and ensure sustainable development.
“The proposal to install additional transformers at the Kanbay Substation and GREF Centre Kalas is extremely important to ensure uninterrupted, high-quality, and reliable power supply for industries, IT companies, and local residents in the Talwade and Dighi areas. This project will serve as a milestone in permanently resolving issues caused by increasing industrial load. I will personally ensure all necessary administrative approvals and follow-ups so that Pimpri-Chinchwad’s industrial growth faces no obstacles,”
