DYPCOE Dominates University Chess; Girls Win Second Consecutive Title, Boys Complete Golden Hat-Trick
Pimpri: D. Y. Patil College of Engineering (DYPCOE), Akurdi has once again stamped its authority on university-level chess, with its Girls’ Team winning the Championship for the second consecutive year and the Boys’ Team completing a historic three-peat at the Savitribai Phule Pune University Inter-Collegiate Chess Tournament.
The tournament was held on 11th and 12th September 2026 at MUC College, Pimpri, where both DYPCOE teams displayed outstanding strategic play, confidence, teamwork and consistency to emerge as champions.
Girls Continue Their Winning Run
The DYPCOE Girls’ Chess Team secured the Championship and Gold Medal for the second consecutive year. The winning team comprised Prajakta Jadhav (CS), Lavanya Bhadakwade (ENTC), Prajakta Godhane (IT) and Rajnandini Deokar (IT).
Adding another achievement to the team’s success, Prajakta Jadhav (CS) has been selected to represent Savitribai Phule Pune University at the Inter-Divisional Chess Tournament based on her outstanding performance.
Boys Complete a Golden Three-Peat
The DYPCOE Boys’ Chess Team continued its remarkable winning streak by clinching the Championship and Gold Medal for the third consecutive year, creating a historic three-year winning legacy.
The championship-winning team comprised Tanish Gupta (AI-DS), Meet Bhattad (ENTC), Piyush Indrale (AI-DS) and Pranav Patil (IT).
Adding another feather to the team’s achievement, Tanish Gupta (AI-DS) has been selected to represent Pune District at the Inter-Zonal Chess Tournament for the second consecutive year. He will participate in the Inter-Zonal Chess Tournament to be held at Nashik.

The outstanding success of both teams is the result of systematic preparation, effective team selection, strategic planning, continuous practice and dedicated guidance from the Department of Physical Education & Sports.
DY Patil Education Complex Trustee Mr. Tejas Patil, Campus Director Admiral (Retd.) Amit Vikram, Principal Dr. Mrs. P. Malati, Dean – Administration Dr. S. S. Sarnobat, Dean – Affairs Dr. Smita Pataskar and Registrar Mr. Bhalerao congratulated both teams and appreciated the players for their outstanding achievements.
Director of Physical Education & Sports Dr. Abaji Subrao Mane played a key role in the success of both teams through systematic planning, effective team selection, strategic guidance, regular monitoring and continuous encouragement of the players.
The Girls’ second consecutive championship and Boys’ historic third consecutive championship underline DYPCOE’s sustained excellence in university-level chess and its commitment to nurturing talented sportspersons.
