Following the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project, the Centre now aims to connect other major cities across the nation via high-speed rail. Against this backdrop, the Mumbai–Pune bullet train project has garnered particular attention, with projections suggesting that the journey along this route could be completed in just 48 minutes. This initiative is expected to drastically reduce travel times that currently take several hours.

Additionally, a bullet train has been proposed for the Pune–Hyderabad corridor—a vital route for the IT and industrial sectors. It is estimated that the travel duration on this route will be limited to approximately two hours. Consequently, this is expected to further strengthen economic, commercial, and technological ties between the two cities.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared this information in Parliament. These two projects are expected not only to boost industrial development but also to provide passengers with a new, fast, safe, and convenient mode of travel.

Meanwhile, questions are being raised in certain quarters regarding the absence of the Mumbai–Nagpur route in the current announcement, given that there have been long-standing demands for this specific corridor. Nevertheless, the two projects announced at this time are poised to bring about a significant transformation in Maharashtra’s transportation landscape.
