Vanaz–Chandani Chowk & Ramwadi–Wagholi Corridors Target Completion by 2028

Pune, India: In a major boost to urban mobility, the MahaMetro has accelerated plans to expand the Pune Metro network, aiming to complete key extensions by mid-2028. The proposed expansion will strengthen east-west connectivity and significantly ease traffic congestion across the city.
Speaking at a press conference, Managing Director Shravan Hardikar confirmed that the extension work on two crucial stretches—Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi (up to Vitthalwadi)—will be completed within the next two and a half years.

The Ramwadi–Wagholi corridor is particularly critical, considering the severe traffic bottlenecks along Pune-Nagar Road. To address this, a double-decker flyover is being planned between Wagholi and Viman Nagar by the MSRDC. The project aims to integrate metro rail and road transport, offering a seamless and efficient commuting experience. The tender process is currently underway and expected to conclude within a month.
Station Network Details:
- Vanaz to Chandani Chowk Extension:
This stretch will include two new stations: Kothrud Bus Depot and Chandani Chowk. - Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi Extension:
A total of 11 stations are planned along this route, including Viman Nagar, Somnath Nagar, Kharadi Bypass, Tulja Bhavani, Ubale Nagar, Upper Kharadi Road, Wagheswar Temple, Wagholi, Siddharth Nagar, Bakori Phata, and Vitthalwadi.
Currently, metro services are operational between Vanaz and Ramwadi. The groundwork for further expansion is nearly complete, with only the formal groundbreaking pending before construction begins at full scale.
Hardikar emphasized that the next 2.5 years will be crucial for the project’s execution, with the expanded corridor expected to transform daily commuting for thousands of Pune residents.
