According to officials, persistent rain led to a rapid rise in water levels, leaving nearly 4 to 5 feet of water accumulated on the road. The bus driver attempted to cross the flooded stretch but the vehicle became stuck in the deep water, leaving those inside unable to exit safely.
After receiving information about the incident, rescue teams from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) reached the spot. Fire brigade personnel used ropes to evacuate the stranded passengers and the driver safely. No injuries were reported, and the prompt response helped avert a serious accident.
The heavy rainfall also disrupted traffic in several low-lying areas of Pune. Waterlogging forced the closure of parts of the Wagholi–Lohegaon Road near Karmabhumi Nagar, where vehicles were seen stranded and rainwater entered nearby shops. Municipal authorities launched operations to drain the accumulated water and restore traffic movement.
Earlier Rescue on Old Mumbai–Pune Highway
In another rain-related incident on Monday, a tempo got stuck in a waterlogged underpass on the old Mumbai–Pune highway. Alert traffic police noticed the vehicle being swept away by the strong water current and quickly rescued the driver, preventing a fatal accident.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid waterlogged roads, follow traffic advisories, and exercise caution as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
