#UnclogHinjawadiITPark Movement: IT Employees Rise in Protest Over Accidents in Hinjawadi!
Four Lives Lost in Two Months; Traffic Police Busy Collecting Fines – Women IT Employees Outraged
Pimpri-Chinchwad: Following the death of four citizens in just two months due to chaotic traffic conditions, pothole-ridden roads, and reckless heavy vehicle movement in the Hinjawadi IT hub, angry IT employees have decided to take to the streets. Protesters have announced a massive protest march to the PMRDA (Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority) office after Diwali.
Recently, Bharati Mishra lost her life in a collision with a cement mixer. The candle march organized in her memory received a massive turnout from citizens. Protesters declared, “This is just the trailer – the real battle is yet to come,” issuing a stern warning to the authorities.
“Traffic police are only focused on collecting money under the pretext of helmet checks, seatbelt enforcement, and parking violations. However, no action is taken against mixer trucks, tankers, and dumpers that roam freely and recklessly on the roads. Isn’t this directly inviting accidents?” questioned enraged citizens.
In a meeting held in July 2025, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had promised that the roads would be fixed within a month. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar even conducted an early morning inspection at 6 a.m. However, three months later, there has been no visible improvement. “The administration is only pushing papers. In reality, potholes still plague the roads and continue to endanger lives,” said Sachin Londhe forcefully.
Women IT Workers Express Their Anguish
Daily commutes have become life-threatening. “Every day I leave for work, I’m unsure if I’ll return home safely,” shared several women IT professionals. The lack of safety on roads, absence of speed limits for heavy vehicles, and administrative negligence post-accidents have created an atmosphere of fear, especially among women.
There is a growing demand that not only the drivers but also the owners of such heavy vehicles and the construction companies involved be booked and held accountable. “Four people have lost their lives in just two months. Roads have turned into a kingdom of potholes. Women are commuting with fear during daylight hours. Arresting the dump truck driver is not enough – those who employ him must also be held responsible.”
In July 2025, a meeting regarding the Hinjawadi traffic issue was held at the state assembly in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. At that time, the CM had assured that the roads would be repaired within a month. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar had also conducted early morning site visits at 6 a.m. However, three months on, the condition has only worsened. “We are giving an ultimatum to the PMRDA administration. We will launch a massive protest after Diwali. The promises made by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and the administration have not been fulfilled. Narrow roads have turned into death traps. Women citizens are literally clutching their lives in their hands while commuting. When a woman dies, an entire family is devastated – and the administration is directly responsible. This is just a trailer. Don’t take us lightly. If IT employees decide, we can go from boycotting elections to staging mass protests on the streets.”
