The dispute emerged after Israel reportedly prepared for expanded military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, a move that threatened to derail the fragile ceasefire framework being discussed between the United States and Iran. According to reports, Trump personally called Netanyahu and expressed strong anger over Israel’s actions. Details of the conversation, revealed by U.S. officials to Axios, suggest one of the most heated exchanges ever reported between the two leaders.
“You are completely crazy. If it weren’t for me, you would be in prison. I have been saving you. Everybody hates you. Because of your actions, everyone is beginning to hate Israel,” Trump reportedly told Netanyahu during the call.

Another source quoted Trump as sharply questioning the Israeli leader, saying, “What are you doing?” He also reportedly reminded Netanyahu that his political support had helped him avoid serious consequences during Israel’s ongoing corruption investigations.
The confrontation came after Israel warned of intensified strikes on southern Beirut and other Hezbollah-linked targets. Iranian state media responded by warning that continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon could bring any U.S.-Iran ceasefire arrangement to an abrupt end, raising fears of a broader regional war.
Senior American officials reportedly cautioned Israel that threatening attacks on Beirut could further isolate the country on the international stage. They also expressed concern over the rising death toll in Lebanon, where Israeli operations have targeted buildings believed to be linked to Hezbollah leadership.
Despite Trump’s criticism, Netanyahu remained defiant. In an official statement following the conversation, the Israeli Prime Minister reaffirmed Israel’s position, stating that military operations would continue unless Hezbollah completely halted attacks against Israel.
“If Hezbollah does not stop attacking Israel, Israel will continue striking targets in Beirut. Our position remains unchanged,” Netanyahu said.
