Delhi Restaurant Fire Kills 21, Chaos Unfolds
Deadly blaze engulfs restaurant in South Delhi; 21 killed, 11 injured as desperate victims jump from upper floors to escape raging flames.
New Delhi: A devastating fire ripped through a restaurant building in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning, triggering scenes of panic and tragedy that left at least 21 people dead and 11 others injured. The massive blaze, which reportedly started at a restaurant in the Hauz Rani locality, spread rapidly through the structure within minutes, trapping dozens of occupants inside.
According to officials, the fire broke out around 9 a.m., causing widespread chaos among customers and staff. As thick smoke engulfed the building and flames intensified, several people desperately attempted to escape. In shocking scenes captured on video, some victims were seen jumping from the upper floors in a bid to save their lives.
Delhi Police confirmed that 11 injured persons were rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Medical teams are closely monitoring their condition.

Recognizing the severity of the incident, the Delhi Fire Service deployed ten fire tenders to the spot. Firefighters battled dense smoke and intense flames for several hours while carrying out rescue operations. Authorities said that 37 people have been safely evacuated so far, while concerns remain that additional individuals may still be trapped inside the building.
The horrifying visuals circulating on social media show desperate cries for help, thick black smoke billowing from the structure, and frantic rescue efforts unfolding amid the disaster.
Speaking about the tragedy, BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay said, “The incident occurred around 9 a.m. As soon as information was received, all disaster management agencies were activated. Local residents also extended significant support to the rescue operation. Delhi Police, Fire Services and district administration reached the spot immediately and launched relief efforts.”
SDM Jitendra Kumar stated, “As soon as the call was received, the DDMA machinery was activated. A restaurant was operating on the ground floor of the building. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and a detailed investigation is underway.”
The cause of the blaze remains unknown. Forensic experts and investigating agencies have begun examining the site, with authorities exploring multiple possibilities, including an electrical short circuit. However, officials emphasized that the exact reason behind the fire will be known only after the investigation is completed.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves across Delhi, with grief and outrage mounting over the scale of the loss. Authorities have assured a comprehensive probe into the incident as families of the victims mourn their loved ones.
