The Pawana Dam in Maharashtra’s Maval taluka has reached 93.10% of its total storage capacity, prompting authorities to issue a precautionary alert for residents living along the Pawana River. Officials have warned that water may be released from the dam at any time to regulate reservoir levels.

According to the Irrigation Department, continuous rainfall over the past few days has significantly increased water storage in the reservoir. As of 5:00 PM on Thursday, the dam stood at 93.10% capacity, while inflow into the reservoir continues despite a decline in rainfall over the catchment area and nearby ghats.
Authorities stated that controlled water discharge into the river channel may be carried out at any moment, depending on the inflow and reservoir conditions. The Water Resources Department will issue an official notification before any release of water.
Residents living along the Pawana River have been advised to remain on high alert, as continuous rainfall could lead to a sudden rise in the water level of rivers, streams and drains.
The administration has urged people to immediately shift farm equipment, agricultural pumps, livestock and other belongings away from the riverbed to safer locations to avoid any loss in case of water discharge.
Officials have also appealed to citizens not to believe rumours and to strictly follow all advisories issued by the administration and the Flood Control Cell of the Pawana Dam Project.
