The operation involved personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Army, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), PMRDA Fire Department, police, and other emergency agencies.

The tragic incident occurred on July 8, when a massive heap of garbage collapsed onto a residential building at the Moshi garbage depot, trapping several people inside. Five residents managed to escape on their own immediately after the collapse, while rescue teams successfully pulled out nine survivors during the operation.

However, nine people lost their lives in the disaster. Among the victims were Bhavesh Wani, Akshay Sawant, Sunil Korke, Sunny Mane, Mahesh Kumbhar, Nagesh Gaikwad, Ranjit Patil, Rahul Gaikwad, and Vaman Kasbe, whose body was recovered after an intensive search beneath the debris.

Following the incident, PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi directed officials to issue notices to the Municipal Environment Department and the contractor, Antony Lara Renewable, and ordered a detailed investigation into the causes of the accident.

The civic body has also announced ₹10 lakh ex gratia compensation for the family of each deceased victim. Commissioner Suryawanshi instructed officials to ensure that financial assistance is provided without delay.

Expressing condolences, Mayor Ravi Landge described the tragedy as deeply painful and extended sympathy to the bereaved families. Commissioner Suryawanshi also paid tribute to those who lost their lives, stating that despite the relentless efforts of rescue teams over 84 hours, the loss of nine lives was heartbreaking and demanded a thorough investigation.
