Money-Heist Style Robbery on Bengaluru Flyover: Fake RBI Officers Loot ₹7 Crore in 30 Minutes
In a dramatic daylight heist, a gang impersonating RBI officials stopped a CMS cash van on a Bengaluru flyover and escaped with ₹7.1 crore within minutes.

Bengaluru:
witnessed a shocking daylight robbery on Wednesday when a group of criminals, posing as RBI officials, looted ₹7.1 crore from a CMS Info Systems cash van. The entire operation was executed on a flyover in South Bengaluru and wrapped up in less than 30 minutes, in a style reminiscent of the famous Money Heist series.
Around 12:30 pm to 1 pm, the CMS cash van carrying three cash boxes left an HDFC Bank in JP Nagar, heading toward HBR Layout, approximately 22 km away. When the van reached Ashoka Pillar in Jayanagar, two vehicles intercepted the van.
“We are RBI officers” — The Trap
The cash van had four staff members:
-
Driver Binod Kumar
-
Staff Aftab
-
Gunmen Rajanna and Tamaiah
Three men got down from a hatchback while an Innova approached from behind. The men claimed:
“We are RBI officials. We have received a complaint that your company violated RBI guidelines. We need to record your statement.”
Believing their story, the CMS gunmen kept their weapons aside and allowed the men to enter the van.
Van Forced Toward Flyover
One of the fake officers instructed the van driver to move towards Dairy Circle flyover, 3 km away, saying RBI officers were waiting. Their car followed the van closely.
Upon reaching NIMHANS Junction, the alleged officials asked the CMS staff to step out and head to the nearby Siddapura Police Station to give their statement. They claimed they would take the cash boxes to the RBI office first.
Unaware of the trap, the CMS staff began walking to the police station, while driver Kumar drove the van to the flyover as instructed.
Heist Executed in Seconds
At the flyover, the criminals’ vehicle arrived near the van. At gunpoint, they quickly loaded all the cash boxes into their car and sped away before the driver or staff could react.
The criminals disappeared with ₹7 crore in cash, executing one of Bengaluru’s boldest recent heists.
👮 Police Response
Bengaluru Police Commissioner S. Girish Kumar Singh stated:
“We are investigating all angles. CMS informed us late. Teams led by two DCPs and a Joint Commissioner are working on the case.”
Police are examining CCTV footage across Jayanagar, Dairy Circle, and NIMHANS Junction to identify the vehicles and the men involved.
