Sangli:
Even though the winter chill is yet to set in after Diwali, the arrival of migratory birds along the Krishna River has already begun. For the first time, the Golden Oriole (locally known as Sonychikhlya) has been spotted near Audumbar’s Kondar area, marking a rare and delightful event for local bird enthusiasts.
The Golden Oriole, known for its striking yellow plumage and melodious call, is a long-distance migratory species that travels thousands of kilometers during the change of seasons. Experts believe that changes in temperature and habitat availability may have influenced the bird’s early arrival this year.
Local bird watchers have reported several sightings of other migratory species as well, suggesting that the Krishna basin is once again becoming a favored resting ground for these travelers. Wildlife enthusiasts have expressed happiness over this development, as it highlights the ecological richness of the region and the need for conservation of riverine habitats.
Environmental groups have urged authorities to preserve the wetland zones and limit human interference in these natural habitats to ensure that such rare species continue to find safe resting places in the Krishna valley.
