After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, England suffered an early collapse as they were reduced to 35/3, with Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Alice Capsey and Amy Jones departing cheaply against South Africa’s disciplined pace attack.
However, England’s experienced duo Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight rescued the innings with a magnificent 133-run partnership, completely shifting the momentum. Sciver-Brunt reached her half-century in just 35 balls, while Knight also brought up a well-crafted fifty as England posted a competitive 169/3 in 20 overs.
Chasing 170 for victory, South Africa never gained control of the run chase. Captain Laura Wolvaardt fell cheaply, putting the team under early pressure. Tazmin Brits fought a lone battle with a gritty half-century, but the lack of support from the middle order proved costly.
South Africa eventually finished on 129/8, handing England a convincing 40-run victory and a place in the tournament final.
England’s bowlers complemented the batting effort brilliantly. Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean claimed two wickets each, while Linsey Smith, Sophie Ecclestone and Freya Kemp chipped in with one wicket apiece to ensure South Africa never threatened the target.
With confidence soaring after an all-round performance, England will now face defending powerhouse Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final in what promises to be a thrilling championship showdown.
