“Royal March of Omkar the Elephant: The Majestic Guest Travels Through Sahyadri Hills”
Omkar the elephant, now a social media sensation, continues his royal journey through Sindhudurg’s forests as forest officials escort him safely like a true king of the wild.

Sindhudurg (Sawantwadi):
The name on everyone’s lips in Sindhudurg district these days is “Omkar the Elephant.” This majestic tusker is on a royal journey through the Sahyadri hills, currently seen in the lush areas of Sarmale and Bhalaval. Watching his graceful walk, even the forest department has ensured his dignity is maintained — treating him like a royal guest.
Over the past month, Omkar has traveled across several villages including Kas, Madura, Ronapal, Insuli, Wafoli, and Otwane. During his journey, he appeared twice on the Mumbai-Goa Highway near Insuli and crossed the Terekhol River four times, showcasing his swimming skills and playful nature.

Initially, Omkar had created fear among villagers when he accidentally killed a farmer in Morle village of Dodamarg taluka. However, his behavior has since become calm and friendly, drawing large crowds of locals and children eager to see him. Forest officers have been closely monitoring his movements, ensuring both his safety and the safety of the people.
Teams of forest staff and local volunteers follow Omkar to guide his path, preventing any harm to crops or human life. Their careful coordination has helped avoid potential conflicts between humans and wildlife.
Omkar’s journey has even caused temporary traffic jams along interstate routes like Belgaum, Kolhapur, Amboli, Danoli, Banda, and Goa, as curious onlookers stop to watch his regal stride. Photos and videos of him have flooded social media — making Omkar an internet celebrity and a symbol of human-wildlife coexistence.
Now moving toward the Sahyadri ranges, Omkar seems less like a wild tusker and more like a gentle celebrity of the forest. His journey reminds us how humans and animals can share space peacefully — as long as respect and safety are maintained.
So if you see Omkar next time, remember — admire him from a safe distance and let this royal guest continue his majestic march through the wild.
