EPFO Launches a Unique Feature! PF Account Holders to Get Huge Benefits
EPFO has launched a new feature in the UMANG app for creating and activating UAN. Now, activating UAN through facial recognition will be easier. Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has called it a digital milestone.

EPFO New Feature-
This new system has been introduced to avoid errors and prevent inconvenience to employees. UAN is a unique number for your PF account. Without it, you cannot withdraw your PF money, check your balance, or update your personal information.
EPFO Introduces Three New Services-
EPFO has launched three new features in the UMANG app.
-
First, if you need a new UAN, you can generate it and activate it instantly.
-
Second, if your UAN has already been created but not yet activated, you can activate it.
-
Third, if your UAN is already active, you can use it with facial recognition.
To avail of these services, all you need is your Aadhaar card and the UMANG app. This app is available for free on the Google Play Store.
You can do all this by yourself using your smartphone — without anyone’s help. If your company wants to create a UAN, they can also use this app. You can also download the UAN card in PDF format.
How to Use This Feature-
Creating a UAN is very simple-
-
First, open the UMANG app and click on the option ‘UAN Allotment and Activation’.
-
Then enter your Aadhaar number and the mobile number linked with it.
-
Tick the box to give consent and click on ‘Send OTP’.
-
You will receive an OTP on your phone. Enter it and complete the verification.
-
If needed, download the Aadhaar Face RD app.
-
After that, select the facial recognition option.
-
The app will open the camera, and it will scan your face.
-
Once scanned, the edges of the screen will turn green, similar to the DigiYatra app used at airports.
-
If your face matches the Aadhaar data, the system will immediately generate a new UAN and send it to your mobile via SMS.
Major Relief for Employees-
This new facility is a big relief for employees. Earlier, to create a UAN, the company had to send your data to EPFO. Many times, errors in name, mobile number, or other information caused problems later.
Now, facial recognition will eliminate these issues. Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that this is a significant digital step for employees. In 2024–25, 1.27 crore UANs were generated, but only 35% were activated. With this new technology, more people will now be able to activate their UANs easily. This feature will save time and make PF-related services simpler and more reliable.
