100 LED Street Lights Worth ₹16 Lakh Stolen from Pune Municipal Corporation; Police Yet to Crack the Case
PMC reveals decorative LED lights installed on Bibwewadi's Swami Vivekanand Road were stolen, while questions arise over the discrepancy between the actual value of the lights and the amount mentioned in the police complaint.
Pune: In a startling revelation, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has disclosed that 100 decorative LED street lights, valued at approximately ₹16 lakh, were stolen from Swami Vivekanand Road in the Bibwewadi area. The accused remain untraced despite repeated follow-ups with the police.
The information came to light in a written reply by the civic administration to a question raised by senior BJP corporator Mansi Deshpande during the PMC General Body meeting.

According to the civic administration, each LED light was procured at a cost of ₹15,750 through the official tender process. Based on this rate, the total value of the stolen lights is approximately ₹15.75 lakh.
Following the theft, the Bibwewadi Regional Office lodged a complaint with Bibwewadi Police Station on November 22, 2026. However, police have so far failed to identify or arrest those responsible for the theft.
The civic administration stated that it has repeatedly followed up with the police regarding the investigation. According to information received from the police, the investigation has been kept pending due to the absence of any suspects and will resume once the accused are identified.
The incident has also raised questions over the valuation mentioned in the police complaint. While PMC records indicate that the stolen lights were worth nearly ₹15.75 lakh, the complaint reportedly estimated the value of the stolen property at only ₹2.60 lakh.
The significant difference between the actual procurement cost and the amount cited in the FIR has triggered concerns over whether the loss was accurately reported. The municipal administration has not clarified the reason behind the discrepancy.
PMC officials also admitted that no departmental action has yet been initiated against any official in connection with the incident. The civic body said efforts are continuing to recover the stolen property in coordination with the police.
