HSRP Deadline Ends Today; ₹500 Fine From Tomorrow

Vehicle owners across Maharashtra have only today (June 30) to install a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. With the deadline ending today, the Transport Department has announced that enforcement will begin from July 1, and vehicles without HSRP plates may face penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act.

According to the department, joint and independent inspection drives will be conducted by the Police and Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials across the state. Vehicles found without HSRP plates will be booked under Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, with fines of up to ₹500. Additional legal action may also be taken if other violations are detected.

RTO Services to Be Blocked

Apart from monetary penalties, vehicle owners without HSRP plates may also lose access to several important RTO services. These include:

  • Vehicle ownership transfer
  • Address change
  • Hypothecation entry or removal
  • Vehicle re-registration
  • Modification approvals
  • Permit renewals
  • Several other administrative services

Officials have warned that non-compliance could lead to significant inconvenience for vehicle owners beyond just paying a fine.

Relief for Registered Applicants

The Transport Department has clarified that vehicle owners who registered on the official HSRP portal and booked an installation appointment on or before June 30 will receive temporary relief. Such applicants will not face immediate action if they can produce proof of their appointment.

The department has also confirmed that the HSRP requirement is currently not mandatory for fitness certificate renewal.

Official HSRP Charges

The government has fixed the official HSRP charges as follows:

  • Two-wheelers: ₹450
  • Three-wheelers: ₹500
  • Cars, light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles: ₹745

GST will be charged separately, while the installation cost is included in the above fees.

Transport Department’s Appeal

To ensure smooth implementation, Maharashtra has been divided into three zones, with Rosmerta Technologies, Real Industries, and FTA HSRP Solutions appointed as authorized vendors.

The Transport Department has urged vehicle owners to complete registration only through the official HSRP portal and get their number plates installed only at authorized centers before enforcement begins.
